You guys, I totally have a super power.
Unfortunately it's not something very useful or the power I really want like time travel and invisibility.
My super power is the ability to spot a handsome, English former public school boy at 100 paces.
They can try to disguise themselves by putting on a baseball cap or affecting an American accent, but they can never fool me.
Case in point:
The new season of one of my newest favorite shows, Boardwalk Empire, started two weeks ago. In the first episode, there is a scene where one of the main characters, Margaret, is touring a hospital and has a testy conversation with a young doctor. It's not an incredibly noteworthy scene, and yet it made me sit up a little straighter and say to myself, "Well well well... and who have we here?"
I'll tell you who we have here:
His name is Patrick Kennedy. He's British. He went to Harrow with Benedict Cumberbatch. And he was in War Horse with Benedict AND Tom Hiddleston.
You guys, it doesn't help that his character on Boardwalk Empire is basically Mr. Darcy as a doctor in a 1920s era hospital. Very arrogant and dismissive with the opposite of a bedside manner.
I can tell his character is going to be a maddening asshole... which I kind of have a soft spot for. He certainly got Margaret Thompson fired up.
And so, burdened with this supernatural ability (and glorious purpose), the next logical question is 'how will I use it for the greater good?'
Answer: Honestly I'm not all that concerned about the greater good, but for the greater good of myself I hope I can use it to get myself a cute, English boyfriend.

Tales of Infanticide and Incest
That's the alternative title I came up with for Game of Thrones. Here are some more highly intuitive thoughts about last night's episode:
- I almost felt sorry for Theon. ALMOST. And then he told that poor, dumb girl to smile with her mouth closed.
- From now on I will only be paying the iron price for everything. Grocery shopping is going to be tres interessant this week.
- I want to make Samwell Tarly a heaping plate of pancakes for just being so darn cute.
- I mean, seriously, it was like a parade of adorable Samwell last night. He wanted to try to deliver Gilly's baby because he had "read about it a bit"... no doubt on WebMD.
- Gendry and Arya. GENDRY AND ARYA! I love their banter. So cute!
- Jaqen!! Very excited for Jaqen. VERY.
- And once again The Dinklage brought it hardcore with the witticisms and clever clark one-liners. Like a boss... every episode.

Dragon Christmas Thoughts
Here are the most intelligent things I thought about during the season premiere of Game of Thrones:
- Craster asked Jon about his "moist" vagina. You just got hardcore burned, Jon Snow.
- Was Robb about to make out with his mom? It really felt like it for a second.
- Melisandre is like a red Elvira.
- Where the fuck is Arya?
- Bronn and Tyrion 'til the end of time, y'all.
- Not nearly enough Samwell.
- On the list of most likely ways I will die, wine-drowning is probably in the top 5.
- Jon Snow, when you hear a story about a man marrying his daughters, begetting more daughters, and then marrying those daughters, your very first question shouldn't be about his sons.

It's Christmas TV Episode Time!
Some of my very most favoritest things to watch at Christmas time are Christmas episodes of my favorite TV shows.
Here are some I highly recommend.
1 The Office (the UK version starring Ricky Gervais)
This is a two-part special that was filmed as a sort of epilogue to the original series. It is balls out AMAZING. Beware fans of the US version of The Office, watching this will ruin Jim and Pam's love story. They are bullshit compared to the seething Victorian melodrama of Tim Canterbury and Dawn Tinsley.
After you watch this the song 'Only You' by Yaz will become a Christmas song even though it isn't.
2. Wings - A Terminal Christmas (Season 1)
To be honest, I just picked the Christmas episode from the first season to make it easy. I love the show Wings. I own it on DVD... all of them, every season. I might be the only person in the world to own every episode ever made of Wings. I hope not, but there is a strong possibility that I am. And I'm becoming okay with that.
3. A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!
Stephen Colbert filmed a Christmas special for The Colbert Report and released it on DVD... and it is just so stupid... so stupid and so funny.
4. Seinfeld - The Strike
In my family this is the king of "Christmas" episodes... and it's not even a Christmas episode. This is the episode of Seinfeld where we all learned about the holiday of Festivus. And the world was never the same again.
