A Love Letter To My Others

Friends,

Have I ever told you how rad you all are?

Have I sent each one of you a needlepoint throw pillow emblazoned with the words 'THANK YOU FOR READING MY BULLSHIT AND PRETENDING IT ISN'T BULLSHIT' in hot pink thread??

I wish I could because you are all so fabulous to me.  Your comments and encouragement are like my own personal double rainbows delivered right to my inbox.

I've been thinking a lot about the 'Find The Others' web comic I posted awhile back.

I just can't even begin to tell you how much that message has been the theme of my life the past few months.  My life has been magical in a very subtle, quiet, and beautiful way lately.  Every piece finding it's place at exactly the right moment.  The patience it has taken to sit still and let my life find it's way has been at times unbearable, but I feel really excited about where my life is headed lately even though I have no idea where that might be.

And I think some of that has to do with this blog.  Writing in this blog has helped me become more comfortable with being vulnerable.  I struggle with this.  I find it difficult to reveal personal things about myself to other people... even simple things like what music I like or which footballer I'm currently pretending to date.  But letting people into my interior life through this blog has been such a rewarding experience because of you guys, and I have found that this has bled over into my everyday, non-internet life as well.

All I can say is that everything really good and amazing that happens in life does so when you allow yourself to be vulnerable to others.  It is the most rewarding and exhilarating feeling in the universe.

Am I turning into Deepak Chopra?  Will Oprah ask me to be on her show??  Will she give me a brand new car???

I'm pretty sure the answer to all of these is a resounding 'Definitely maybe.'

And I can live with that.

Thank you so much for being my 'Others'.

With much love and double rainbows...

Your Pal,
Jess

  1. This just gave me a serious case of the warm fuzzies. I don't KNOW know you (in the non-Internet sense) but I am just so stoked that you're in a good place and loving life and things. And if by sitting over here on the other side of the world/a laptop screen and reading your thoughts is helping you be more open and vulnerable and leading you to LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE (as the Oprah would put it), then I am tremendously honoured to be counted amongst your Others. You just keep on keeping on, and we'll all be over here, playing virtual-cheerleaders to the best of our abilities. GIANT internet hug to you, Jess!

    1. I'm dying because I have honest to god been saying LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE to everyone lately. Usually a little bit sarcastically. But seriously, everyone should be trying to be living their best life everyday. Also, as Dr. Phil says, "I want you to be EXCITED about your life." That's another favorite!

Seriously, thank you!! I refer to everyone I've ever tangentially met on the internet as my "friend" and that 100% includes you! Your super nice, out-of-nowhere comment several months ago got me started blogging again after slacking and half-assing it for a very long time.

    1. You are one of my O.G. (Original Gangster) others. My only regrets about having you as a friend are that we didn't have a class with Ms. Dockens about 3 years sooner AND that we live so far apart.

But you seriously need to stop sending mixed signals to 50 year old men and going out on accidental lunch dates :)

  3. Aww, Jess! That was sweet and I'm glad that you're blossoming into womanhood. I know that sounds like I'm your great aunt like, pinching your cheeks and ruffling your hair on the first day of your period, but really.

I can see it, so people close to you in the every day must be able to see it too. You're opening up and exploring yourself and you're so awesome and open and fun. While you say the blog and your followers make you better, you make us all better too. You're inspiring to me, absolutely. You make me want to branch out and do more and be more.

    1. See! This is why you guys are so great! I thank you and you end up making me feel great about myself!

Thank you so much for being my biggest cheerleader and for listening to me whine about boys and crushes like a 13 year old girl. And for being the only other person I know who likes to talk about Game of Thrones! It was totally worth starting a blog just so we could become friends.

    2. You can whine about boys and crush on whatever celebrities you want and tell me all about it, because you best believe I'll be doing the same right back at you! xo
